It was a Homecoming game to remember on Friday for the Davis High football team at Ron and Mary Brown Stadium, defeating River Valley High of Yuba City, 53-25.

Following a rough 43-0 shutout on the road on Sept. 19 at Whitney High in Rocklin, DHS (2-4) bounced back both offensively and defensively against RVHS (1-5).

As Blue Devils head coach Roscoe Ahn pointed out, the game was not dominated by any one player — seven different Blue Devils scored touchdowns.

“It was a great overall team effort,” remarked Ahn of the victory.

The Blue Devils’ dominance began only 14 seconds into the game. The Falcons received the kickoff to their own 28-yard line. The first play of the drive was fumbled and recovered by DHS’ Ty Incendy for a touchdown. An extra point kick from Mohammad Reggad gave the Blue Devils a 7-0 lead at the 11:46 mark.

RVHS took right back over offensively. Within the first three minutes of gameplay, the game was tied up at 7-7 after a touchdown by Falcon Jesus Fernandez and extra point kick made by Marcus Cruz.

In its second offensive drive of the game, DHS blocked the Falcons’ punt, starting the ball for the Blue Devils at the RVHS 20-yard line. Noah Wittenberg brought the ball in for a touchdown at the 4:32 mark for a 13-7 advantage. Reggad’s kick was no good.

River Valley mirrored the Blue Devils on their next drive, with Joshua Kellas scoring a touchdown and Cruz missing the extra point kick, once again tying the game, this time at 13-13.

Blue Devils quarterback David Dirksen recorded a touchdown of his own at the 46-second mark to give his team a 19-13 lead going into the second frame. Reggad’s kick was no good.

DHS kept up the momentum in the second quarter, scoring on two of their three offensive drives.

Jake Saban was the next Blue Devil to find the endzone, catching a 28-yard pass from Dirksen at the 8:28 mark. An extra point made by Reggad brought the tally to 26-13.

On the Falcons’ next drive, RVHS began with the ball on their own 39-yard line. Quarterback Jayden Walker threw a 34-yard pass to Kellas, bringing the ball to the DHS 27-yard line. Fernandez found the endzone for a 27-yard touchdown at 7:45, making the score 26-19.

Blue Devil Cooper Ballard blocked the extra point attempt by Cruz.

Despite being at a first-and-20 on their own 17 on the next drive, DHS was able to make their way all the way to the RVHS 4-yard line for Wittenberg’s second touchdown of the night at 4:43. Another extra point kick from Reggad brought the score to 33-19.

The Falcons offense stayed quiet during the third quarter, but DHS added two more touchdowns to its tally.

On a third-and-13 at its own 36-yard line, Dirksen connected with Brody Beckwith for a whopping 64-yard touchdown pass at the 11:15 mark. Reggad’s kick through the uprights made the score 40-19.

During its next offensive drive, DHS began with the ball on its own 34-yard line. After moving the ball to the Falcons’ 24-yard line, Henry Eich caught a pass from Dirksen at 4:09. Another kick from Reggad brought DHS’ advantage to 47-19 going into the final quarter of the contest.

Reggad was given a shot at a field goal at the 8:52 mark of the fourth quarter, but barely missed, hitting the goalpost at the last second.

River Valley tacked on one more touchdown after a 42-yard pass on a first-and-10 at their own 45-yard line brought them to the DHS 13-yard line. Cameron Smith brought the ball into the endzone, cutting the Blue Devils’ lead to 47-25. A two-point conversion attempt by the Falcons was no good.

As the game clock ran out, DHS added one more touchdown to its tally for good measure. Zion Millican completed a 7-yard carry into the endzone, with Francisco Serrano Corso in at quarterback for DHS.

Ahn believes that this win will be good for his team’s morale and confidence going forward.
