EL DORADO HILLS — Twice the Davis High School baseball team had its second two-run lead in a Sierra Foothill League game against Oak Ridge High’s squad.

In their three-game series this week, the Blue Devils were within striking distance of picking up not only their first league win of the season but their first win of any kind.

Then the host Trojans took charge — again.

Oak Ridge had a big inning, which led to a 13-6 win over DHS (0-6 in the SFL, 0-12 overall) Thursday afternoon and the series sweep. The Trojans posted a 7-2 win over DHS at Dan Ariola Field on Tuesday and took the opener 10-3 on Monday.

“I think we did a good job getting guys on base and setting the table, as did they,” said DHS head coach Ethan Guevin.

Davis led 5-3 after the top of the third inning, plating three runs during this time. This was the second time the Blue Devils led, as they scored their first run in their first at-bat.

Oak Ridge (3-3 in the SFL, 5-6), which led 3-1 after one frame, saw its bats come alive in the bottom of the third. That is when the Trojans scored nine runs, thanks to one-third of their 10 hits in the game that led to a 12-4 advantage.

“I think the biggest difference between the two teams is when runners were on base, two outs, they (Oak Ridge) got the big hits and we didn’t,” Guevin said. “Just came down to executing in the big moments.”

Both teams’ bats became silent for most of the game. Davis scored its final run in the top of the fifth, while Oak Ridge sent its last run touching home plate in the bottom of the sixth.

The bulk of DHS’ losses have been where it had the lead, if not close games. Then opponents break away from the Blue Devils to register the win.

“We’ve had a lot of games where we reach that breaking point… that big moment we’re not getting the hit or making the play,” Guevin said. “It’s frustrating because we know we are better than what we have shown. There’s a lot of (this) season left. Continue to work and stay positive and put ourselves in the best position in those big moments.”

The Blue Devils only had seven hits in Thursday’s game. William Donald and Frankie Serrano-Corso each had two hits for DHS. Alexander Thompson, plus Colin Campbell and Jackson Vogt, each had a hit. Campbell had a triple and two RBIs.

Oak Ridge had 10 hits in the game. Jasen Womack and Hudson Vetter each had two hits. One of Womack’s hits was a double that came in the third inning. Brody Timms, along with Womack, Noah Teply and Vetter, each had two RBIs.

Upcoming games
Davis continues action on the field in the Fresno area, taking part in the Fresno Easter Classic. The Blue Devils won the classic’s title game in 2025.

Davis’ first game on Monday is against Bullard of Fresno at 1 p.m. Then its second game will be against Clovis North at 7.

On Tuesday, DHS will play its third game against Stockdale at 4 p.m.

“The Fresno tournament is always a fun time,” said Guevin of his team preparing to make the trek to the heart of the Central Va... Click here to read full article
