The Davis High Field Hockey team shut out Bella Vista 1-0 at home Monday night. The Blue Devils, ranked 15th in the State, remain undefeated at 6-0. The first half was a defensive struggle with both teams failing to reach the back of the net.
At halftime, the Blue Devil coaches remained positive and reiterated that the team was following the game plan and the goals would come. In the first minute of the second half, the Blue Devils scored on a goal by Addison Milner, which was assisted by Alana Clifford.
The Blue Devil defense would keep the ball on its side of the field for most of the second half. Head coach Beth Hogan said, "The team stuck to the plan and played hard. We had multiple shots hit off the post or the goalie's pads. Our defense really kept the pressure on. Bella Vista is a strong team, and we are glad to come away with the win."
Despite the strong defense, the game was close, and Bella Vista had a chance with 1:20 left in the game to tie it with a penalty corner. Things were set up perfectly for Bella Vista, and they got off a good shot. Luckily, Kira Kelly was ready when needed and made a spectacular diving save.
The Blue Devils are back in action this weekend, hosting a tournament to be played on the UC Davis Field Hockey facility.
