The Davis High School women’s golf team donned their blue and white uniforms as they teed-off against Oak Ridge under the blazing hot sun on Wednesday, Sept. 19.
Davis was hosting the visiting Trojans at Wildhorse Golf Course, and the first group to tee-off for Davis included senior Mehr Jaijee and junior Bella Trask.
Six golfers from each team competed hard, especially considering the match fell on one of the hottest days of the week.
Girls from both teams encouraged each other after nice drives and chips throughout the course.
“It was nice to finally have a home match because we’ve had all away ones, and Oak Ridge was really nice so it was good,” said Jaijee.
Nearly three hours after tee-off, the last group of golfers made it to the ninth and final hole.
Davis put up a good fight against the reigning Sac-Joaquin Section Girls Masters Golf Champions. They ultimately lost the match by 12 strokes with a final score of 221-233.
Junior Lily Lingbloom led the team with a score of 41, followed by Jaijee with 43, and Trask with 44.
Solid performances from Davis weren’t enough to beat Oak Ridge’s consistency, along with a match-high score of 38 from Trojan Emily Guan.
Luckily for the Blue Devils, they’re just getting started. This match against Oak Ridge marked their first league match, as well as their first one at home.
“I think this match went pretty [well] for one of our first matches…now that we have this match down, it'll only be up from here,” said Jaijee.
