Varsity men’s volleyball took on the Whitney Wildcats in their second home game of the season on Mar. 10.

The Devils entered the court with fierce plays, scoring the first points of the game.
“We came out playing really well,” junior Ryan Buzzbee said. “Defense was great and we started pushing that first set to get an early lead.”

Defense was a key component throughout the game, especially in the first set. Blocks from junior Sam Whitaker, senior Mason Rowell and senior Gabe Crawford helped keep Davis in the lead.

After a back-and-forth battle, a spike from Crawford sealed the Devil’s 27-25 win in the first set.

“I think me and my middle, Mason, had some really big kills that led the game,” Crawford said. “Our setters were also very consistent so we didn’t make any errors.”
The second set started with Whitney gaining a quick lead. However, Davis fought back and regained control, leading 20-18.

With the score tied late in the set, the crowd was filled with uncertainty until a final kill from Whitaker closed out the set with a 25-22 victory for Davis.

The third set secured the win for Davis. The Devils maintained their momentum, widening their lead with multiple digs from their libero, Buzzbee, who kept the ball in play. The set ended in a 25-21 win for Davis.

Crawford has high hopes for the rest of the season. “It’s just going to keep getting better,” he said.
